I obtained my PhD in immunology working on mycobacterial susceptibility and IFNGR1 deficiency with Jean-Laurent Casanova. After a post-doctoral training at Jules Hoffman's lab in Strasbourg (France), on the antiviral immune response in Drosophila, I joined back the HGID lab to develop the virus team. I contributed to the discovery of novel inborn errors of immunity underlying herpetic encephalitis (UNC93B), NK cell deficiency (MCM4, GINS1), epidermodysplasia verruciformis due to beta-HPVs (RhoH, CIB1) and fulminant hepatitis to hepatitis A virus (IL18BP).
I am an elected representative of Imagine researchers, elected president of the French Society of Immunology and elective secretary of European Society of Primary Immune Deficiencies (ESID).
We aim to further dissect the genetic determinants of skin- and liver-intrinsic antiviral immune responses to viruses with distinct tissue tropisms, as well as to viruses lacking specific tropism. By developing and integrating in vitro, ex vivo, and in situ experimental approaches, we will characterize the respective contributions of circulating and tissue-resident immune cells, together with virus-targeted cells, to disease pathogenesis. All projects are conducted through a network of international collaborations, combining expertise in patient recruitment, clinical investigation, and fundamental research.
Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) and HPV-related skin diseases
EV is a rare inherited disorder of cutaneous immunity characterized by an exceptional susceptibility to beta-HPVs, resulting in persistent lesions and a markedly increased risk of non-melanoma skin cancer.
Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis (RRP)
RRP is a chronic viral disease caused by persistent infection with specific human papillomaviruses (HPV), characterized by the recurrent growth of benign papillomas in the respiratory tract, particularly the larynx, leading to significant morbidity and, in rare cases, malignant transformation.
Fulminant Viral hepatitis (FVH)
FVH is a rare but life-threatening syndrome characterized by rapid and massive immune-mediated liver injury following viral infection, mainly hepatitis A or B viruses and herpes viruses, leading to acute liver failure and high mortality in the absence of prompt medical intervention or liver transplantation.Our long-term goal is to achieve a comprehensive understanding of human tissue-specific antiviral immunity. Such knowledge will provide critical insights into the mechanisms underlying susceptibility to viral infections and will guide the development of innovative therapeutic strategies for affected patients and their families.
