Tikehau is partnering with the Imagine Institute and the Necker-Enfants Malades Institute to advance research into genetic diseases

Tikehau is partnering with the Imagine Institute and the Necker-Enfants Malades Institute to support the OrganoTech Hub project, ‘From Cells to Cures’, through a €4 million sponsorship. Supported under the SESAME Filières France 2030 scheme by the State and the Île-de-France Region, and operated by BPI France, this project will help to accelerate research into rare and complex diseases.

In partnership with the Imagine Institute and the Necker-Enfants Malades Institute (INEM), this support is enabling the creation of a cutting-edge technological platform dedicated to the development of next-generation cellular models. The aim is to advance and accelerate the discovery of new therapies for patients with rare diseases – often children – for whom treatment options remain far too limited.

This funding will be channelled into the development and organisation of the OrganoTech Hub, helping to establish the Île-de-France region as a leading European centre of excellence in the field of human pathophysiological models.

Spanning five years, this donation will be divided equally between the Imagine Institute, led by Professor Bana Jabri, and the Foundation for Medical Research (FRM), acting on behalf of the Necker-Enfants Malades Research Foundation (FRNEM), to support the scientific work of the INEM, led by Professor Fabiola Terzi.

This platform will receive funding of €1.4 million over three years from France 2030 and the Île-de-France Region.

Research into genetic diseases is one of the greatest medical challenges of our time. By supporting the OrganoTech Hub, we aim to make a lasting contribution to our understanding of diseases and the development of new therapies. As business leaders, we wish to act in the interests of scientific research whilst strengthening France’s competitiveness in the biotechnology sector.

Antoine Flamarion et Mathieu Chabran,

co-founders of Tikehau

By developing the OrganoTech Hub, we are providing researchers in the Île-de-France region with cutting-edge technological resources to better understand genetic diseases and accelerate the development of new therapies. This is precisely our ambition: to turn the scientific excellence of the Île-de-France region into a driving force for innovation that benefits patients, whilst strengthening a strategic sector for our region

Valérie Pécresse,

President of the Île-de-France Region

This major sponsorship from Tikehau marks a decisive step towards accelerating research into rare and complex genetic diseases. I would like to extend my warmest thanks to Tikehau for its trust and commitment to our cause. Together with the OrganoTech Hub, we will develop a new generation of human disease models that closely reflect the biological reality of patients’ conditions. These will be essential for transforming discoveries into new therapeutic approaches and for using rare diseases as a key to understanding and treating more common conditions. This support, alongside that of the Government and the Île-de-France Region, will enable us to speed up the journey from discovery to treatment for patients – often children – who are still waiting for solutions.

Pr Bana Jabri,

Director General of Institut Imagine

Thanks to the OrganoTech Hub, it will be possible to take a decisive step forward in understanding complex diseases affecting, in particular, the kidneys, the gut, the liver, the lungs and the immune system, by modelling them as closely as possible to how they actually present in patients. Developed from patients’ own cells, these next-generation models – known as organoids – will enable us to better understand the mechanisms underlying these diseases and accelerate the identification of new therapeutic strategies. “I would like to extend my warmest thanks to Tikehau, the French government via France 2030, and the Île-de-France region, whose support makes our ambition possible. This project, which aims to become a leader in Europe, demonstrates the excellence of French research and its capacity for collaboration.

Pr Fabiola Terzi,

Director of the Necker-Enfants Malades Institute

The OrganoTech Hub project is based on the creation of a platform for the production, characterisation and provision of advanced cellular models that replicate the development and functioning of human tissues. These models will provide a relevant research environment for studying the interactions between genes and drugs.

The development of the OrganoTech Hub is supported by a network of academic and institutional partners which, alongside the Imagine Institute and INEM, includes the Foundation for Medical Research (FRM), the Necker-Enfants Malades Research Foundation (FRNEM), Paris Cité University, Inserm and the AP-HP. The Medicen Paris Region competitiveness cluster also contributes to the project’s integration into the healthcare sector.
